FSRA Approved Designations in Ontario

In Ontario, the Financial Professionals Title Protection Act, 2019 was proclaimed into force on March 28, 2022. The title protection framework limits the use of the title 'Financial Planner' and 'Financial Advisor' to individuals who have obtained an approved credential from an approved credentialing body.

The Financial Services Regulatory Authority of Ontario (FSRA) is the regulatory body for Financial Planner and Financial Advisor title use. Under the Financial Professionals Title Protection Rule, FSRA approves and oversees credentialing bodies to ensure they have policies and procedures in place for the effective administration of a credentialing program, including oversight of their credential holders.

The Canadian Institute of Financial Planning (CIFP) is approved as a credentialing body by FSRA under the Financial Professionals Title Protection Framework to grant and oversee Financial Planner and Financial Advisor title use in Ontario.
